Schoolwide Supports
Tier 1 Toolkit
During my internship at Drummond Montessori Magnet School, I created a Tier 1 Teacher Toolkit designed to strengthen schoolwide implementation of MTSS and promote proactive behavioral support. Developed in response to trends such as increased discipline referrals and inconsistent use of Tier 1 interventions, this resource provides teachers with structured guidance on classroom strategies, data collection methods, and referral processes. The toolkit emphasizes prevention, consistency, and data-informed decision-making to better support students and reduce unnecessary escalation to Tier 2 and Tier 3 services.
This Tier 1 Intervention Menu is organized by behavior and guides teachers through selecting appropriate classroom strategies. For each behavior, it outlines possible functions, targeted interventions, and recommended data collection methods to monitor progress. The menu is structured in columns that identify the behavior, explain its possible function, and provide linked interventions with guidance on implementation. Additional links direct teachers to data collection tools and next steps for tracking student progress and determining whether further support is needed.
Tier 1 SEL Lesson Plans
During my internship at Drummond Montessori Magnet School, I taught monthly extension lessons that supported the Second Step social-emotional learning curriculum. One lesson focused on helping early childhood students practice attention and listening skills through a game called Attention Detective. During the activity, students used their “detective tools” (their eyes, ears, mouth, and body) to listen carefully to clues and find hidden objects in the classroom. I created this lesson after noticing patterns in Tier 2 referral data and speaking with teachers about students who were having difficulty staying focused during class.
I also developed a lesson for upper elementary and middle school students called Understanding Stress and How It Affects the Body. In this lesson, students explored how stress shows up physically in the body and practiced strategies to calm themselves when they begin to feel overwhelmed. Through an interactive “Alarm On / Alarm Off” activity, students experienced how their bodies react to stress and then practiced calming strategies such as slow breathing and relaxing their muscles. The goal of both lessons was to help students build greater self-awareness and develop practical skills they can use to stay focused, regulate their emotions, and be more successful in the classroom.
During my school counseling internship, I created a curriculum overview for the entire school year. The overview is organized by month and includes Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 programming designed to support students’ academic, social-emotional, and developmental growth.
School Counselor Curriculum Overview
Comprehensive School Counseling Handbook
During the Fall 2024 semester in my Foundations of Professional School Counseling course at Loyola University, I created a comprehensive school counseling handbook using ASCA templates. The handbook includes key components of a school counseling program, such as an annual administrative conference, a Tier 1 lesson plan, an advisory council presentation, and other program materials.
Text Set: Emotion Identification & Regulation
During my Summer 2025 Advanced Literacy Instruction course at Loyola University, I created a scaffolded text set designed to help elementary students identify and regulate their emotions. The slideshow begins by introducing the importance of emotion education and includes research that highlights its impact on students’ academic and social development.
The text set features eight books organized into four developmental areas: naming and identifying emotions, recognizing emotions in the body, building empathy, and developing regulation and coping strategies.
