Lucy Calkins Reading Instruction
Kindergarten
As a kindergarten teacher at OLMCA, I was proficient in and implemented the Lucy Calkins reading curriculum. I tried to create the best lessons for my students by finding Lucy Calkin’s “teaching point” and then adapting the lesson to best fit my students needs. In the second half the year, I implemented guided reading groups to support students at different reading levels.

Student Teaching Reading Lesson Plan
Kindergarten
During my student teaching placement at Hawthorne Scholastic Academy in Mrs. Lisy’s kindergarten classroom , I was asked to create two lesson plans using the edTPA template. I wrote and taught the reading lesson on the right to my students. Below, you can look through slideshow of the the brainstorm poster we created together, the checklist the students used while looking at the book of their choice, and final worksheet that they used to determine whether the book was fiction or non-fiction.
