5 Day ELA/Literacy Assessment Plan

1st Grade

To the right is a 5 day ELA assessment plan I created for my class, Assessment in Early Childhood Inclusive Settings. Throughout the week, the plan focuses on assessing each student’s ability to listen, read, write, and speak about a chosen text. The week starts by focusing on the text and ends with student creating their own script from what they have learned. The days are color coded, starting on Monday and ending on Friday. I also was tasked with creating differentiated assessments for students H, O, and G. To the left, you will see the specific students’ needs. Their differentiated assessments are written for each day in the differentiated assessment section.

ESL Science Unit

Kindergarten ESL

This unit outline was created for the class Biliteracy Practices in Bilingual Education and ESL Classrooms. I was tasked with creating a unit for a class of ESL students with Spanish as their first language. I created a science unit on the four seasons for kindergarten students at a language proficiency level (ELP) of 3: Developing. In the unit on the right, you will see an outline that focuses on reading, writing, listening, and speaking opportunities, creating differentiated assessment methods, and brainstorming ESL learning strategies. On the last page, you will see a very brief overview of what each day’s lesson will look like.

 Remote Teaching Handbook

2nd Grade

During the spring of 2020, the professor of my Primary Grades Internship challenged students to create a handbook for remote learning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. I collaborated with three of my colleagues on a handbook for 2nd grade teachers and parents.

In the handbook, you will first see a short introduction that includes our recommendations for online teaching practices. Then, we suggested a number of apps, websites, and books that would be helpful during a pandemic and instructions to use them with children at home.

Student Teaching Math Lesson

Pre-K

In May of 2021, I was placed at Faraday Elementary School in East Garfield Park for my pre-k student teaching. One of the lessons I created and taught during this time was a lesson on shapes. Because I did not know the students developmental snapchat/prior knowledge on shapes, I pre-assessed the students. Then, I used that information to create my lesson plan. During the lesson, I taught the studies how to count the sides of a 2D shape and how to sort 2D shapes by counting the sides of each shape.

Below is the lesson plan, pre-assessment, introduction slides, and a slideshow of the materials used for the lesson.

Student Teaching Reading Lesson Plan

Kindergarten

During my student teaching placement at Hawthorne Scholastic Academy in Mrs. Lisy’s kindergarten classroom , I was asked to create two lesson plans using the edTPA template. I wrote and taught the reading lesson on the right to my students. Below, you can look through slideshow of the the brainstorm poster we created together, the checklist the students used while looking at the book of their choice, and final worksheet that they used to determine whether the book was fiction or non-fiction.
